SARGENT MANUFACTURING WINS 2010 CONNECTICUT GREEN BUSINESS AWARDNEW HAVEN, CT, March 8, 2010 - SARGENT Manufacturing Company (www.sargentlock.com), an ASSA ABLOY Group company and a market leader in locksets, cylinders, door closers, and related products, announced that the company is a recipient of a 2010 Connecticut Green Business Award from Business New Haven magazine. The Green Business Awards are given to "the business and business leaders driving Connecticut's green revolution." More than 25 companies, organizations and exceptional people from across the state are honored. The SARGENT CHP system utilizes a previously idle internal combustion engine from a consolidated factory in the Americas division. The turbocharged, 800 horsepower, natural gas engine drives a 535-kilowatt generator. The generator will supply 20% of the SARGENT facility’s electricity. The exhaust of the engine flows through a waste heat boiler and the boiler makes steam for processes, heating and cooling. Fuel for the existing boilers is thereby reduced. The engine jacket water cooling system flows through a heat exchanger to preheat the water supplied to the boilers. The engine oil cooling system then flows through a second heat exchanger to provide hot water to the finishing processes. “The cost of the project was greatly reduced and made possible by using the rebuilt engine,” said SARGENT Product Service Profit Center General Manager Gary Gionet. “The project also qualified for a $250,000 state government grant.” Annual savings are expected to be in the low six figures based on the current price of natural gas, oil and electricity and pay for itself within two years. Also, carbon dioxide emissions are reduced annually and the carbon footprint of the facility is lowered. On February 24, the winners, including SARGENT, will be honored at a special ceremony at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Science. |

SARGENT MANUFACTURING CAPTURES TWO GOOD DESIGN AWARDSNEW HAVEN, CT, January 27, 2010 – SARGENT Manufacturing Company (www.sargentlock.com) a market leader in locksets, exit devices, door closers, access control locks and related products, has been recognized by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies as a 2009 GOOD DESIGN Award winner. SARGENT was recognized in two separate categories. The company's Harmony Series Access Control System was a winner in the Protective Equipment Category, while its MX Lever was cited in the Hardware Category. The Harmony Series integrated Wiegand product combines lockset with proximity or iCLASS card reader in a small attractive package. The MX lever, part of the Studio Collection of designer levers for the company’s institutional grade hardware, marries elegant form with functionality to meet many jurisdictions’ requirements for return-to-door levers. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames, and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., GOOD DESIGN bestows international recognition upon the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary, and innovative product concepts, invention and originality, and for "stretching the envelope beyond what is considered basic product and consumer design." Now in its 60th year, GOOD DESIGN is the oldest and the most prestigious Awards Program organized worldwide. Submissions to the program are judged by a jury of distinguished design professionals and leading industry specialists and design press on criteria established in the original 1950 program for the highest aesthetic in terms of innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, and energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment. "To be among the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial product designs in the world is an honor; to be recognized in two categories is indescribable," said Dan Nash, general manager of SARGENT Manufacturing. "While we are proud of the award, we are even prouder of the fact that we are clearly providing our clients with some of the most well-designed and manufactured products available on the market." As with all award winners, the awarded products and graphics are accessioned into the Museum's Permanent Design Collection. |

SARGENT INTRODUCES POWER OVER ETHERNET PROFILE SERIES LOCKSNEW HAVEN, CT, January 21, 2010 – Sargent Manufacturing Company (www.sargentlock.com), an ASSA ABLOY Group company and a market leader in locksets, exit devices, door closers, access control locks and related products, offers the Profile Series v.S1 Power over Ethernet (PoE) locking devices, the latest IP enabled version of the Profile Series locks. The Profile Series v.S1 combines the security of SARGENT ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 exit devices, bored and mortise locks with open-standard, technology-forward IEEE 802.3af networking. This fully integrated and online access control lock ties into a building’s existing local area network, or LAN, enabling the user to monitor a facility’s hardware from a third-party access control system. With the v.S1, important security tasks - interrogation of lock hardware, changing user profiles, identifying possible security breaches and issuing lockdowns - can all be completed from a centralized location. However, this “smart lock” is not dependent on the network and can provide access control even if the network is unavailable. No proprietary equipment or power supply is required for system installation, resulting in reduced costs and faster commission. The v.S1 offers dual credentialing (125 kHz prox and keypad) or prox only, and can store up to 2,000 users per lock. The door status monitoring function allows the system administrator to remotely query door position (open/closed). In addition, included sensors enable immediate alarms, such as Forced Door and Unauthorized Access Attempts, allowing appropriate security steps to be taken. What’s more, should a critical situation arise, the v.S1 can respond immediately to a lockdown command, while free egress is maintained at all times. An attractive feature is the fact that the v.S1 is capable of “local” decision-making: the lock maintains a copy of the user database inside, ensuring that an “access granted/access denied” decision can be made right from the lock’s internal database. In addition, the v.S1 is capable of locally storing 10,000 events. Both are important benefits in the event of a network outage. The v.S1 also helps the user realize significant cost reduction through the elimination of power supplies, integration of card reader and monitoring sensors into the lock, and reduced labor due to faster installation times. Available in exit device, cylindrical and mortise lock configurations, the Profile Series v.S1 is aesthetically complemented with SARGENT Studio Collection or Coastal Series levers. MicroShield® antimicrobial finish is also available for maximum user safety. |

Open architecture design facilitates integration with any access control system, which translates to a significant reduction in hardware and labor cost. It offers easy installation in hard-to-wire locations and up to 80% faster installations compared to traditional access control installations |
